Water Resources and their Usefulness in the Light of Quranic Texts

Abstract

Water, essential for all life, holds significant ecological and spiritual importance. This research examines the practical use of water resources and the restrictions imposed by Shariah law, as derived from Qur'anic scriptures. Using qualitative methods, the study explores Qur'anic texts, intellectual theories, and current scholarship to understand water usage in Islamic jurisprudence. The Qur'an highlights water's sacredness, describing it as a divine gift essential for life, and emphasizes the need to protect and use it wisely. This analysis focuses on Qur'anic principles regulating water use, such as conservation and the prohibition of wastefulness, forming the basis of Shariah norms for fair and sustainable water management. The study investigates specific Qur'anic verses on conserving water and preventing waste and contamination, advocating a balanced approach to water use prioritizing preservation, cleanliness, and equitable access. It discusses current challenges in water management, including scarcity, pollution, and inequality, suggesting that adherence to Islamic values can offer practical solutions through ethical and environmentally responsible practices. The research underscores the role of Islamic scholars and community leaders in promoting these values. Ultimately, it calls for integrating Islamic principles into modern water management to ensure the sustainable and fair use of this vital resource.
