History of Oriental English Quran translations: Analytical review
Abstract
The translations of Holy Qur‘an introduced by Oriental English scholars have been a topic of discussion under many perspectives including their vocabulary, linguistic gap, omissions and Sūrah arrangements as well. The Oriental scholars that mostly had radical/religious Jew-Christian back ground assumed to have deliberately made errors and omissions in translation of Qur‘an. They had great support from Publishers, Universities, scholars and different segments of European/western societies. These oriental scholars also insisted that Surah arrangement of Qur‘an is not in right order based on their biased attitude and they presented their own scheme of surah arrangement over last few centuries. A detailed comparison table regarding oriental translations surah arrangement presented in our study reveals the whole scenario of weak argument of Oriental translators. This study provides comprehensive analysis regarding history, sūrah arrangements, and capabilities required for translation of Qur‘an being word of Allah.
