The paper is an attempt to find out the achievements, shortcomings, challenges and solutions devised by the Iranian revolutionaries during implementation of social justice based on the principles of Islamic Sharia, promised by them during the mass movement which toppled Shah of Iran and established Islamic Republic of Iran. The methodological approach adopted for the study was qualitative in nature. Data was collected by going through the goals set in the constitution, plans devised by the concerned government agencies, information published by the government on the outcomes, reports issued by the credible national and international agencies especially those of United Nations. The views of the critics as well as the government officials were also explored by going through their critiques and claims. Data such collected was critically analysed and cross verified to get true picture on the matter. Study transpired that Iranian government adopted multidimensional approach for the uplift of downtrodden segments of society and quite successfully enabled their upward mobility. Speedy development of infrastructure for the rural and poor urban areas have provided educational and health facilities to most of the populace which has increased literacy rate, alleviated poverty and raised their living standard quite reasonably. However a lot of work is still needed for which apparently the leadership has a realisation as well as will. The study is quite significant for those who are in search of alternate to the dominating hegemonic prevailing economic system. The Islamic movements vying for establishment of governance system based on Islamic principles in their countries have many lessons to avoid pitfalls, forecast challenges and prepare themselves intellectually and strategically.
