Abstract

Water is basic necessity of life. Survival of this universe depends upon it. This significance of water is maintained from the advent of life on this universe and will remain same till its end. Major part of earth is filled with water. It has its multiple roles and features for proper functioning and growth of each organism of this planet. But despite this basic scientific importance of water, there is another entirely different approach in almost all religions about water that is its religious and spiritual sanctity. There is a thorough concept of sacredness of water equally in sematic and non-sematic religions. Whether it can vanish all sins of a human is a controversial aspect, anyhow its sanctity is a similarity index among all religions. This research is highlighting a historical perspective of sematic and non-sematic religions of sub-continent about sanctity of water.
