Abstract

Mufti Muhammad Noorullah Naeemi was a devout and pious man and held a high position of devotion, trust and piety. He was free from greed and worldly love. Truthfulness, rejection of static imitation and hatred for a sectarianism were his salient features. He understood the changes of the times with God-given religious insight and then guided the contemporaries in the right direction on modern issues. He had a keen eye on jurisprudential details. The inference of the rules was of the path of moderation and caution. He would find a way to ease the problems for the people, but his own action would be based on higher standards of piety. He pointed out the mistakes of the great scholars and corrected them. Fatawa Nooria is a telling proof of his breadth of knowledge and offers religious insights and power of reasoning of the scholar. Some of his fatwas, based on dozens of scholarly resources, meet high research standards. Playing the role of a great mujtahid, he accepted the challenge of the times, and presented the solution of modern problems in the light of the Holy Quran, Sunnah and the sayings of Imams and jurists. He not only took a stand on some of issues mentioned by the forefathers, but also took a stand on the solution of modern issues. In his fatawa, he upheld the highest standard of research. However, when he was asked about any question that he could not adequately answer, he was not reluctant to admit his inability to issue fatwa.
