Abstract
The Genre of Logic in Subcontinent: An Appraisal of Compilations and Translations
The earth of subcontinent occupies a pivotal positions with regards to several genres of knowledge. It is also prominent for pure rational sciences. This territory acquired the light of rational sciences from Khuras and Transoxiana (known in Arabic sources as Mā Warāʾ an-Nahr). The land of Multan was the first center of rational sciences. Some personalities of Sindh took part in the movement of translation in the period of Abbasids. The historians are of the view that the first book of theology was written in the land of Sindh. In the subcontinent the Muslims took interest in the science of logic in seventh century of Hijrah. This was the time of declining the Abbasid Empire and many scholars inhabited this land, but the history of this science in the subcontinent is very ancient. In this article and attempt has been made to show the evolution of the Logic through the compilations and translations. It covers this academic journey from seventh century to the present. It also throws light on the further need of work from different perspectives.
