Abstract

Influence of the Efforts made by the Sahabiyaat R.A in Narrating Ahadith:

In spite of the system of segregation and the obligation of wearing the hijab and veil, the Muslim woman of the Prophet's time, used to step out of her house, and on grounds of eligibility, provide her services, when required. The state beautifully benefitted from her talent, ability and eligibility, but one of the greatest qualities of Prophet Muhammad's s.a.aw time was that in spite of her services of knowledge and praxis, she was given special identification and recognition in Islam's domestic and societal system. Islam kept in view the natural qualities, capabilities and weaknesses of both men and women and then allocated a share of do's and don'ts for both, in accordance with their natural disposition. Though meant to perform in different circles, no discrimination was held regarding their efficiency and performance. Just like the men, the women of this era displayed great strength of faith, patience and sincerity to absorb the teachings and emulate the knowledge- loving character of Prophet Muhammad s.a.a.w. The lives of the women of this era can be seen completely devoid of the triangle of ignorance, degradation and purposelessness. The Sahabiyaat R.A widely spread the knowledge of ahadith by narrating them, understanding and interpreting them and practicing accordingly. They played this highly appreciable role in spite of their domestic duties and the limits set for them by religion. Allah accepted their marvelous efforts and blessed their knowledge and research with such heights that it became the foundation of the learning and praxis of the greatest scholar of this Ummah. Fifteen percent of the transmission of the most authentic form of knowledge, that is, Divine Revelation, depends on these women. Moreover, almost one third of the commandments of Islam have been extracted from the transmitted narrations of these pious women companions (R.A). This paper is a research on the effects and influence of the Prophetic traditions narrated by the women companions and on the influence of their services to spread the knowledge of ahadith. This includes effects on the groups of Companions R.A as transmitters, on the Muhaddiseen especially Imam Al Bukhari and on Seerah compilers. It also includes a research oriented analysis of the effects of Prophetic Traditions narrated by the Sahabiyaat R.A on the theoretical inclinations of the Muslim community, their practice, and the influence of these narrations in deducing religious imperatives.
