Abstract
Muhammad ‘Abduhu was a renowned Egyptian scholar, reformer and exegete of twentieth century. He was an alumnus of al-Azhar University and a prolific disciple of Jamal al-Din al-Afghani (d.1897 CE). From the end of the 19th to the middle of 20th century, when Egypt was under British rein, Muhammad ‘Abduhu played a pivotal role in awakening of the Muslims of that era. As a writer, journalist, teacher, speaker, judge, Grand Mufti of Egypt and member of legislative council, his approach was progressive and rational. This paper aims to analyze the Muhammad ‘Abduhu’s point of view and methodology regarding abrogation (nasakh) in the Qur’an, presented in his exegesis of the Qur’an.
